Search results in latest Calibre (6.2.1)

Hello,
I am using version 6.2.1 on Windows 11 and I am not sure if I am doing something incorrectly (some setting I missed), if this is a bug, or if it is just the new way Calibre works.

When I do a search (through the tag browser or through the search bar), Calibre highlights the results, but still shows my entire library in the list. Before, it would truncate the list to only show the results.

For example, if I do a search for titles with "garden" in them, it will highlight the books with that in the title, but they are spread out throughout my large collection.

Previous versions would hide all the null results and only show me the list of books with "garden" in the title.

My collection is very large and this makes searching virtually useless.

But it may very well be user error.

Thanks

Preferences -> Searching -> uncheck "Highlight search results instead of restricting the book list to the results"

Try clicking on the Filter/Highlight icon (should be just past the Search icon). If it says Filter, you will get the highlighted items in the library on a search, if it says Highlight, you'll get the search matches only.

That feature has been in calibre for quite a few versions.

The attached image shows the Highlight icon which should be visible when you will only view the search matches.

Solved. Thank you.

I may have done that a long time ago and the update reset it. I would not have found that.

To get the Highlight/Filter toggle button you must check the Show a quick toggle button to switch between highlighting and restricting results next to the Search bar option in Preferences->Searching.

IIRC its default setting is unchecked.

Interesting. AFAIR, I never checked that setting but I've seen the toggle button
