Jailbreak lost after autoupdate to 5.14.3.0.1
Hi,
I had my PW5 jailbroken. It was 5.14.2 and I used WatchThis jailbreak. I had Kual installed and was able to run my python scripts on it. I believe I had the hotfix installed (now I can't be sure, but I believe I took care of that). Lately my kindle was autoupdated to 5.14.3.0.1 and when I tried to run Kual it was failing with a popup about error. I tried to reinstall the JB (including factory reset), but for obvious reason it fails (when running the Get Started, JB is not loaded). I understand that at this point I can't do anything, just wait for new JB? Jerzy |

Let's try this.
Copy Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.16.N_install.bin to E:\, then restart to try install the JB Hotfix. If it failed, then that means your device is no longer jailbroken, and you need to wait for a newer JB method. Note: If you want to "un-jailbreak", then do these: 1. Factory reset the device (Settings > Reset). This will destroy JB hotfix/bridge that will automatically inject the developer/3rd party certificate, but the device is still jailbroken. 2. Reinstall the same software update. This will restore the original certificate. You must do BOTH with that order. Last edited by tekkasit; 07-09-2022 at 10:59 AM. |

Err, do *NOT* reboot with a JB hotfix package, that never worked, and never will.
*Do* try to install the most recent JB hotfix again the proper way (i.e., via "Update Your Kindle", which may require disabling current OTA blocking shenanigans for it to actually work). |

Ok, so what Id did to test:
1. Reset to factory 2. ;enter_demo 3. ;demo 4. Exit 5. ;uzb 6. Connect to pc and copy Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.16.N_install.bin 7. ;dsts 8. Update kindle It completed update process without error messages. Demo mode is still enabled, so it seems a bit uncertain. I will need to check if my jailbreak is still on, but I need to exit demo first (without doing a factory reset?) |

Ok, so I took a step back and reverted to factory defaults (to get rid of demo mode) and then did the update with hotfix. It seems that it completed ok. I didn't start with demo mode, so now I'm good. I will check if I can install kual etc.

Ok, I was able to get everything back in order. Thank you. tekkasit and of course NiLuJe for Your help.
I spent two weeks + to write a python app that downloads blog posts and packages it as a mobi file, so I can put it on my kindle, to find out I can't use it any more ![]() For everybody with the same issue, these are the steps I did: 1. Factory reset (not sure if needed, possibly not) 2. Put Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.16.N_install.bin on root. Eject + "Update Kindle". Wait for update to complete. 3. Put MRPI (extensions + ) on root 4. Put Update_KUALBooklet_e3deabf_install.bin in extensions 5. ;log mrpi - to install booklet. 6. Install other packages, in my case python. |

I did the FR after the update and was able to regain the JB. AFAIK (may be wrong) it is necessary to apply hotfix after the FR, before next update.
In fact I did the FR several times, some with Reset in Kindle Settings, and some with Resell Device in demo mode. |

Why did you even enter demo mode on that firmware build when it can't be jailbreak-ed?
And just to be sure : did you or didn't your actually try doing a factory reset by creating "DO_FACTORY_RESTORE" file like you were advised on the other forum thread? So, not doing it from Kindle UI (were you can't because "Reset" option is disabled) but the way you were told to try and do? |

I followed your steps except for 1,3 and 6. I did not have to factory reset mine. Here's what I did: 1. Put the Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.16.N_install.bin on root, eject then update kindle while on airplane mode. 2. Put Update_KUALBooklet_e3deabf_install.bin in mrpackages folder 3. Type ;log mrpi to install booklet. That's it. Thanks by the way! |

DO_FACTORY_RESTORE should be an empty plain file, not a directory. |

If you only found that Kual load failed. Than you can try to install Kual with .bin file again. It works for me.
