Calibre series upload without reconnecting

Is there a way to send the series metadata from calibre to the kobo clara hd without having to expel it and reconnect?

No. Notice when you disconnect the Kobo, the screen changes to an "importing" message, then returns? That's what writes the book into the Kobo database. Without that database entry, there's nowhere for the series metadata to go. Kinda sucks, but it's way easier than manually setting it like you have to do on the Kindle.

There is a menu option if you have installed the menu needed for KOReader. It simulates a USB disconnect and reconnect. Some like it but it seems a lot of bother to me.
The Kobo MUST import the copied books before Calibre can update extra metadata supported by a Kobo that's not in the epub spec.
It doesn't seem like much bother to me to unplug laptop end, wait for the Kobo to finish importing and reconnect the laptop plug.
The menu option really does the same thing and simply simulates the plug being unplugged and plugged in again. It takes as long, IMO (others may disagree) more chance of messing up. Either way Calibre has to connect twice.

Also the extra menu often needs refreshed via the one click package if the Kobo firmware is updated.

I've only installed the "one click" on my Elipsa. All the other Kobos I manage are unpatched and no extra menu.

Actually I think only Collections can be set locally on a Kindle, unless they changed the FW from what I have. Amazon sets the series info (or not most often) on books you buy off Amazon. The reason why many Amazon titles have the series in the Title text!

How did I miss NickelSeries when it was first posted, this is terrific! I've never had a USB port go bad, but it always worried me about giving it twice the wear & tear by having to always connect twice whenever you add a book to get the series info.

If you need it in any case, nickelmenu has an easy solution for that: you can connect USB again without unplug/plug.

Thanks for that info. I've never installed NickelMenu... between the patches available and the clockmod, I've never needed it. I'm pretty content with the standard home screen ever since Kobo got rid of all the odd-shaped and odd-placed blocks that just looked like a haphazard mess. But I'll keep that in mind if I ever decide to try it out.

And it's also great if you accidentally press Cancel instead of Connect when plugged into the computer.

I've patched so that when connected, it automatically connects without a prompt. One of the best patches!

Really? I'm using NickelMenu, didn't know that, but NickelMenu is basically useless for me personally, I rarely use those features it provides.

Even though I can use NickelMenu to reconnect without unplug, the long process of parsing the DB when connecting Kobo with Calibre is also extremely frustrating.

And I just tried it, it seems if I don't use Calibre when I connect my Kobo, after I unmount/eject the kobo device with my PC manually, the home screen won't show unless I unplug it (it is still displaying connecting and charging black screen), so is it only useful when I disconnect my Kobo inside Calibre?

Or what is the exact instruction to do that?

I'm afraid yes, only eject from calibre works, I don't really know why. As it's something I use normally, I hadn't thought about it, you're right. I've seen it when I eject it directly from Windows (I don't usually do it).

When not running Calibre and ejecting my Libra 2 from Windows, I use Windows Explorer to eject. I just right click on the the Libra 2 on the left pane and eject. IT does work and the home screen does show up without having to unplug the USB cable.
