Info on Kindle J9G29R, jailbreakable?

Amazon has a 8gb kindle refurb J9G29R on sale for $40
I'm new to kindles and I couldn't find this on the wiki, what family or if it is jailbreakable. I think it is a basic Kindle with light gen 10. Thanks for any info

I believe what's more important is the firmware version it ships with. If this is coming from Amazon more than likely it's already been updated to a firmware version that's not able to be jailbroken.

Thank you for your reply. Maybe another red flag is the it is refurbished, it mentions tested and upgraded by Amazon.

Anyone knows what this model would fall under in the wiki? Is it KT2 etc? I didn't find a Kindle basic gen 10 on the list. Thanks

In my limited experience amazon does not update the firmware on refurnished kindles.

Model number is almost useless for identifying kindle models. I think PW2 and PW3 have the same "model" number.

I don't think there's any gaurantees, I just got a new PW5 last week, and it came with 5.14.0 which I was quite glad about.

I see, well offer is no longer available it seems. i'll keep and eye out next time. so as per wiki page PW5 you mean a paperwhite last one on the list. but this ones are Basic kindle 10th gen with a light, and i can't find those in the list.

from wiki.

My question is how do I go about finding out the Firmware? do I have to register the device first? I want to avoid firmware being upgraded, not sure if it will upgrade during registration.
I can't seem to bypass registration, forcing me to enter WIFI password and Amazon account..

should i go ahead with registration? thanks.

I just received a refurb pw4 today. It was still on firmware like 5.12.4. You don't have to register the device. I have never registered any of my kindles as I have always jailbroken them and sideloaded content (so there would be no reason for me to do so). I don't have that model but you must be able to bypass the wifi sign in. Sometimes you have the option to sign into wifi later from the first screen or you have to click on wifi to see them all then get the option to finish setup later. I'm guessing it would be the same with that. Don't know why on that model it wouldn't give the option but on my pw5 I just setup and jailbroke yesterday it let me bypass the wifi deal.

Try restarting the Kindle by holding the power button for 20 seconds. Sometimes that will bypass the registration screen.

Get far enough from your wifi access point that the connection is barely functioning. That will give you time to get into airplane mode.

No way to cancel activation, holding power button for 20 secs just restarted and went back to were it left off. So I completed activation, it rebooted and did some update I went to airplane mode but firmware is 5.13.1.1.

I will have to convert books to Kindle format but ok for now, if that works I'll be happy to have a backup for my poor nook

So far I've been reasonably happy just converting with calibre to side load. I do have jailbreak, but since they finally added cover screensaver I've not been too fussed.
