Kindle EPUB issue
Forgive me if my question seems dumb - I'm new here.
For some time, I've been using Calibre to e-mail documents to my Kindle Paperwhite reader in the MOBI format. Recently, a transfer triggered a message from Amazon announcing that effective 8/22, they would no longer be processing transfers in the MOBI format, and suggesting that future transfers be done in the EPUB format. So I had Calibre convert the documents I had in backlog to EPUB, but when I try to e-mail them, I get an error message from Amazon stating that the EPUB format isn't recognized. I tried contacting Amazon, but the chat person in India wasn't helpful. Anyone know what is going on here? Thanks |

Just use MOBI as long as it continues to work. Maybe amazon will fix their EPUB intake process, but it seems rather unlikely. Once MOBI stops working you can employ the following "trick" to get amazon to accept your EPUBs.
Convert the EPUB to MOBI in calibre, then convert the MOBI back to EPUB. This will cause you to lose all advanced formatting, fonts, etc in the EPUB. But it will result in an EPUB amazon is much more likely to accept in their brain dead email service. |

![]() (Needless to say: Calibre's recipe-driven periodical conversion is wonderful and has probably been worth more to me over the years than the Kindle itself...) |

Just send MOBI periodicals by usb or download via the content server, sending them by email anyway broke the periodical formatting as amazon would re-process them on their email servers. If your primary usecase is reading periodicals on the kindle then this change shouldnt impact you at all.

![]() I guess sticking the converted files in a directory I can grab them from with the builtin Kindle web browser remains my best option. I kind of doubt the Calibre content server will work with that anemic ancient excuse for a browser, but viewing an Apache-generated directory listing it can handle. Just. (And the whole point of this is being able to look at these things on a Kindle when I wake up in the morning without having to drag a computer over, which is just not something I can face before coffee!) |

Hi, Reference the latest announcement from Amazon re sending only epub files to Kindle. My install (the latest) auto-converts to mobi before sending. How can I disable the auto-convert.
Regards |

My approach is to right-click on the document listed in Calibre, and select "Convert Books", and then select 'Convert individually'. When the popup appears, there is a pulldown menu in the upper right corner that I use to select the format I want to use.

I tried making this change in the Sharing by Email box and now Calibre does not email the news file to my Kindle. Am I doing something wrong?

If you want to email news then you also need to change your output format in Preferences->Behavior to epub so the news is downloaded as epub.

Thank you. I made that change then initiated a news download. Again the download occurred but Calibre did not email the download to my Kindle.
I'm sure I messed something up somewhere but can't think what. Again glad for any help! Michael |

UPDATE: I restarted Calibre, right clicked the most recent news download, then emailed it to Kindle. Calibre converted the file to EPUB and it then appeared on my Kindle, although without the MOBI table of contents feature.
Under Preferences|Behavior, Automatically Send News to EReader box is checked. What do I need to do to get Calibre again to email the news after it downloads it? Thank you as always for a wonderful product! Michael |

SECOND UPDATE: I restarted Calibre again, rechecked the settings, did a manual download and this time the file was emailed so I guess that's fixed.
So bottom line seems to be that at least starting in August one needs to change the news format to EPUB to have news emailed to Kindle? And that means no more table of contents? |
