[Kobo] Updating Calibre metadata from device
Specifically, is there a way to mark a book as read in Calibre which has been marked read on my Forma?
I know how to update metadata from Calibre to the Forma, but I can't see a way to do the same in reverse. It would seem a logical thing to do when you connect. |

Kobo Utilities lets you update an integer column with the percent read. But this won't work with a boolean column.

But once you have the percentage read then if the percentage is 100, the book is finished.

Yup. I used to have a yes/no #read column alongside #percentread but it was redundant so I eventually dropped it.

Thanks Guys.
However, I don't seem to be able to get the % read to work, can someone kindly post the full instructions for configuring Calibre and the KoboTouch plug-in? |

The plugin has help for the configuration. If you have followed that and it is not working, then please post details of what you have done for us to look at. If you can't follow that, please explain the issues so that we can help with that.

It took a bit of fiddling, but reading position seems to be working now. I have yet to test the reverse direction - I'm getting everything updated at the moment because I've been having issues with iCloud not uploading so I'm in the throes of transferring data to Google Drive instead in the hopes I don't loose files again.
I suppose I could try and set up a column based on other columns for Read - if location is 100, then 'Finished', else if location <> null then 'Reading', else 'Unread'. I'll see. |

Be careful. Don't put your Calibre library in GDrive. It will break badly.

I use a column icon to overlay the percent read column depending on the value and some other columns. When it gets set, it shows an open book with the percent and when it is 100%, it shows a tick without the number. I also have a status column that gets set based on the reading list a book is in. The status covers reading status and other states such as "needs to be cleaned" or "In Progress" if it is being published on the web somewhere. Some of these are used for the column icon as well.

The common response is referring the poster to the calibre FAQs, specifically the one titled: I am getting errors with my calibre library on a networked drive/NAS? item. Using calibre on networked storage is not a matter of if it will break but when it will break. |

AFAIK You can ZIP up your library and store that on GD as a backup. GD tampers with the file names that IT stores, so only the ZIP get the action, not the contents.
AGAIN. It is a WHEN it will strike, not IF. |
