upgrading from .4.117 to .4.119 and other noob questions

discovered calibre just yesterday and so far it seems to be the answer to my prayers. great work kovid!

as i am running a 64 bit system, i installed via the binary option and it wnet thru no prob on my kubuntu 8.10 desktop. later in the evening i got a message that 0.4.119 is available so i used the command:

sudo python -c "import urllib2; exec urllib2.urlopen('http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/download_linux_binary_installer').read(); main()"

it downloaded and installed ok but when i start calibre i still see it as 0.4.117 as the current version and 0.4.119 as being available. am i doing something wrong to upgrade it?

my reader is iRex DR1000s. can calibre recognize it so i can use the 'send to device' button? its grayed out at the moment.

last - can someone please point me to some sites where i could get de-drm utilities?

forgot to add that after this attempt at trying to upgrade the 'fetch cover from server' function in the edit metadata section seems to be broken. was working fine earlier. the 'fetch metadata' function is working ok.

when i hit the the 'fetch cover' button, i get the following:

my apologies to all. it was my mistake. i was just closing the window and that doesnt quit calibre. have to select quit from the icon in the ribbon( saw that in another post on this site). reinstalling after that fixed the install and fetch cover problems.

now if i could get my dr1000s to be recognized and dedrm some stuff i bought.....
