Trouble with Tolino Vision 6: super long device name on Linux Mint, and file transfer

I was able to solve my initial problem of Calibre not finding the device thanks to the helpful poster over here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...84#post4221084

but now I have two issues, one real one, and one that's just a little weird:

I connect the Tolino Vision 6 and transfer a few books, which works fine. Then on a random book it stalls and then gives me this error message:

I say "random" book, because this isn't consistent. When I restart Calibre (sometimes I have to unplug, and plug back in the device) that same book works perfectly.

This is sort of annoying, because I can't just highlight all and have it all send to device because once that includes one book Calibre doesn't like, it cancels the whole (or most) process.

Here you can also see the other issue, that the device name or a folder therein has a really long name. Is it possible to change it somehow? I'm on Linux Mint, and I'm not sure if this is a Linux thing, a Tolino thing, or what.

Any pointers or ideas?

and deleted the metadata file on the device, but that didn't do anything.

I think this occurs every 5 to 9 books that I transfer. Meaning it's a slow process.

If sending the same book is failing sometimes and not failing other times, then it indicates an issue with the tolino firmware or a hardware issue. MTP is a notoriously poorly implemented protocol, so you are basically stuck doing only a few books at a time.

As for your really long name, it will come from the title/author of the book in question, unless you changed the template used to generate file paths.

Thanks for the reply! I think the long file name is actually the device name, no? Since it says there's an error sending book X "to ('\u200e\u200f\u200e\u200e\" etc. Does that mean I can't do anything about that either?

Yes, you are correct that is the device, or more precisely the storage name. Why the Tolino firmware is surrounding the name with dozens of left-to-right and right-to-left marks (which is what \u200e and \u200f are) I have no idea.
