How long does it take kindlegen to generate a kindle dictionary?

Hi,

How long does it take kindlegen(under Kindle Previewer 3\lib\fc\bin folder) to geneate a kindle dictionary which has 80M html file and contains 60, 000 words?

It has already taken 24 hours with my laptop(a little bit old) but the process not finish yet.

I had tried Mobipocket Creator. The dic was created in 20 minutes.

Make sure to use the -gen_ff_mobi7 and -dont_append_source command line options when using kindlegen to produce dictionaries.

What does -gen_ff_mobi7 option do?

It prevents kindlegen from trying to produce a KF8 format version of the dictionary, which takes time and is useless anyway.

Also the other option should have been -dont_append_source. That prevents the original source file from being included in the MOBI output, cutting the size in about half.

Besides using the -gen_ff_mobi7 and -dont_append_source options, I splitted the single and large XHTML file of the dictionary. Then the dic was created much faster with kindlegen.
