KOReader doesn't show poweroff cover on Libra 2

Hi, I had a black Libra 2 installed the latest One Click Package Bundle with NickelMenu and KOReader on it, tinkered with the screensaver options, and the book cover was shown even when I shut off the Libra 2 complete, showing a message "Power Off" on the top right over the book cover.

Now I traded the black for a white Libra 2 and also installed the same latest OC Bundle, but now the cover just shows up, when it goes to sleeping and when I powered it off the screen becomes blank.

Does anybody has an idea what is going wrong?

Check first the settings in the onboard software from Kobo:
Power saving and Privacy - Sleep mode and power off - Show actually reading book & Actually book cover in full screen

Afterwards in KOReader:
Settings - Screen - Screensaver - Use last book‘s cover as screensaver & Add message to screensaver

After doing this steps it should work.

Thank you very much, but I did all the things you listed already and it still shows me the book cover in sleep mode and a blank screen when shut off!

Did you totally quit the KOReader after doing all this and start him totally new?

Which Version of KOReader is on your Libra 2, the latest one from the One Click package - 2022.03.1?

If you use Calibre did you authorize the Libra 2 in Calibre and choose “bookcover transfer”? And after sending the books to the device connect the Libra again with the laptop for transfer the Metadata’s completely?

Yes, I use OCP 2022.03.1!

I don't use calibre to transfer it to the Libra 2. I send it from calibre to a local dir and from that I sync it to cloud and from cloud to my Libra 2 thorugh rclone.

The thing is, it worked before on my black Libra 2 and after installing everything on my white Libra 2, it don't work anymore. It's interesting that it still shows the book cover as intended in sleep mode but not when powered off.

By blank, you mean a white screen, right?

Check your screensaver settings, in particular the "Hide reboot/poweroff message" one in [Gear] > Screen > Screensaver > Settings > Message settings.

(There's a very vague chance it might be buggy and affecting the full set of widgets, given that this is a weird option that probably barely saw any testing given how annoying it'd be to test).

EDIT: Doesn't look like it could be a problem after looking at the code, though.

My best guess would be the refresh simply being lost to the tides of time, possibly because of the Libra 2 "please don't crash on us" EPDC workarounds.
(And I'll chuck the fact that it worked on your previous device to gremlins (or, more likely, temperature changes affecting the screen's latency)).

Sorry, because of your EDIT, I thought it was redundant.
I now tested both, setting "Hide reboot/poweroff message" on and off, and none of them is changing the state it of the poweroff screen which is still white.

Now I have a new white Libra 2 (because the other one has some stuck pixels and got returned) and I am facing the same problems.

When I installed everything and opened up a book, I immediately powered the device off and tadaaa, I saw the power off bookcover. I started it up again read a few pages and powered it off again. Now I am back to the white page while powered off. I started it again, switched on the light and then powered it off for the third time and to my surprise the light stayed on for minutes on the white background until I made a hard reset (?) by holding the power button for some seconds until the device shutts off and then press the button again to start it.

I dont really have a clue what is going on

That the Libra 2 suffers from weird EPDC issues we have (almost) no control of, and the fact that it doesn't randomly hang every four seconds is a minor miracle.

Well I finally managed to work around my issue. Due to an inspiring hint by Sonnenfee via pm, I downgraded to 4.29.

KFmon won't work, after up or downgrading the FW. Because I was using it to start KOReader I always installed the OC-Package after up or downgrading again. But this time I just opened up KOReader through NickelMenu and after reading a few pages and powering it off, it shows me the bookcover with a power off message. I tested it multiple times and it works like it should.

The strange thing is, on my black Libra 2 it worked like this with KFmon activated. But yeah, It's all about miracles :-)
