You can now export your Kobo highlights/annotations to Readwise
You can now export your Kobo highlights/annotations from side-loaded books to Readwise using a desktop app called October.
https://help.readwise.io/article/135...ghts-from-kobo https://github.com/marcus-crane/october Readwise is not a free service, but there is a trial. And once your highlights are in Readwise they can be exported to a number of other formats and applications, so you don't have to worry about your data disappearing overnight. https://readwise.io/export It's been working well for me so far. |

Or you can use Calibre, it's free. The Kobo Utilities lets you put it on the clipboard. Works on Linux, Mac and Windows.
No internet needed. No privacy or security issues. Copy/Paste in ANY application. Used for years and over 900 imports. |

I enjoy the tagging feature of Readwise. Books as well as individual highlights can be tagged and then retrieved for review according to categories. All notes by a particular author can be viewed as well. I also like the daily email sent by Readwise that allows notes from long ago reads to re-emerge for consideration.
I also export all my notes to Obsidian desktop in the non-proprietary .md format for deeper review. I'm sure all of this can be done by way of the Annotations plugin or Kobo Utilities as well, but the Readwise/Obsidian system is working well here. Last edited by Desertway; 04-17-2022 at 01:48 PM. |

I used Notepad++ for years on Windows, inc adding custom syntax highlight etc for unsupported programming languages and initially had it on WINE, then discovered KATE. I only use a fraction of what it can do. I use some Regex in KATE to quickly reformat pasted Annotations.
My workflow is for proofing & edit of novels in LO Writer without any paper. I've saved maybe 5,000 to 6,000 pages & associated toner over the last 8 years. |
