STIX font?

How long as the STIX font been on the Kobo? After today's update I noticed a down arrow on the font choice pull down and it shows two STIX fonts. When I selected STIX text it seems to only use the publisher's default font, whatever that is when the epub doesn't specify a font. I also tried changing its bold setting in the Advanced part but that didn't do anything.

I seem to remember them from 4.30 firmware (they were in the kobo directory inside the fonts directory. The name stands for Scientific and Technical Information eXchange. They are aimed at the scientific, medical and technical fields.

There also used to be a directory inside the kobo directory called encrypted which had 3 fonts in it but those seem to have disappeared.

Edit: Digging through some old notes, those 3 fonts appeared when I selected one of the Chinese language options and synced. With 4.32.19501, I only get two fonts there with the font file called ug_arudjingxihei.ttf (AR UDJingxi Hei) having disappeared from that directory. Though that file does exist in the fonts directory in the KoboRoot.tgz file so an ooops.

Hm, I wonder which version is now included? STIX Two (now at V2.13) is regularly maintained, supports a bunch of opentype features and contains a very complete set of glyphs: https://github.com/stipub/stixfonts/tree/master/docs — a well-made font indeed.

I wonder how it handles on an EInk screen, it originally was supposed to be a 'Times' compatible font, but Times has very extreme and thin serifs so I think they rounded STIX much more to make the it more suitable for digital use...

When I go to the Aa menu, I don't see the STIX fonts with 4.30.

They were available on the Sage from release - both firmware 4.30 and 4.31. I'm still on the latter, and see them.

The STIX fonts on my Sage are not encrypted so Windows Font Viewer reports the version as 2.13 b171. This is the same version as in a backup of the Sage's exposed partition I did on 2021-Dec-04 which was before the release of 4.31.19086 in Jan., 2022.

Curious as to what devices people are seeing these fonts. On my Libra H2O they seem to be missing.

They are not showing on any of my devices. I thought it had something to do with the UI language settings. But, are you sure you haven't sideloaded them? In the screenshot you posted elsewhere, the two STIX fonts are sorted amongst the sideloaded fonts.

If I'd sideloaded them, they would be in the fonts directory not in a kobo directory inside the font's directory.

Same for me. I had no idea what they were, so I didn’t sideload them.

Stix appeared in my fonts directory (I'm on 4.30), but I cant see it on the device because the fonts are .otf, and I patched to avoid .otf.

For me they're on my Elipsa but not my Forma. I updated them both with the firmware (4.32.19501) from geek1011's page.
