Sage battery icon recognizing non-existent stylus???

Hello, everyone! I have been mining the posts on this site for information for a little while now, and decided to get involved. Anyway, for my first post, I wanted to mention a possible bug(?) with my Sage. I am not using a stylus, but when I click on the battery icon, it sometimes tells me that the stylus battery is okay, and since this first happened, the My Notebooks tab made its way out of the More section to the bottom of my screen (between My Books and Discover) and has stayed there. I read somewhere that this happens when a stylus is detected. Anyone else experiencing this? It's not a big deal, but as a non-stylus user, I would prefer My Notebooks to be banished to the More section where it belongs.

For what it’s worth my Sage doesn’t report about the stylus (never had one) but does have my notebooks at the bottom not in the more menu. I don’t recall if it was always there or not though.

I’m on 4.31 firmware

Have a look in the config file for a line with "StylusUsageDetected". If it is there, and has the value "true" change it to "false". If it is not there, add "StylusUsageDetected=false" to the "ApplicationPreferences" section. That should remove "Notebooks" from the bottom of the home page. I don't know if it affects the battery display.

I know I for one have enabled Bluetooth on my Sage to test another issue perhaps it detected and connected to another Bluetooth device and I just missed it at the time. I do have at least one Bluetooth device and it’s fully possible my neighbors who are well within range could as well. Not very possible though so maybe just enabling Bluetooth was at one point enough to trigger this configuration change.

It doesn’t bother me enough to change it right now, I’m also test driving a Libra 2 so the Sage is on the back burner for awhile anyway.

If you want a fun battery display and you don't have the power cover or stylus, try turning developer mode on (search for devmodeon). My PowerCover shows as -1% charged and my cilix show no -1% 23:59:00 (whatever a cilix is but from the location, I suspect it's where the stylus charge level would show).
Searching for devmodeoff will turn developer mode back off.

Yep - I added the StylusUsageDetected=false and it gets rid of My Notebooks but it will return on occasion.

"Stylus battery OK" doesn't always display. I noticed it a few times, but it goes after a while. After the latest update, it went back to having My Notebooks in the More section, but after I saw "Stylus battery OK", it returned to the bottom of the screen and stayed there, even when the message disappeared. Would this bug affect overall battery performance in any way???

Probably not unless you’re turning on Bluetooth. I imagine it’s expecting a value and doesn’t get a negative response so reports as ok. Dunno what it’d do if someone had a dead stylus. Maybe an Elipsa owner can shed some light since I’d imagine that few Sage owners opted for the official stylus

Are you saying that you have already done this and the Notebook tab has come back even though you do not have a stylus? And that includes other brands as some can be detected by the Sage. If so, report the bug to Kobo so that they can fix it.

yep, havn't noticed the bug before i got my powercover(don't know if this happens without powercover). Not any suspicious thing(3rd-party) around sage.
i'm not gonna test 4.31 again...Random screen-freezing bothers me,and i rolled back to 4.30.

Came to this forum having the exact same issue it’s super annoying. Wish they would fix this I will never use a stylus or the notebooks. I just like the 8 inch screen and flush screen
