Pocketbook 840 / PB840 / Inkpad 'original' questions

Hi all

I'm looking to upgrade from a kindle 4th gen, non touch for reading manga and comics on and have found a a second hand Inkpad for a reasonable price, but I've got some questions that I can't seem to find answers for with just Google so I hope someone can indulge a noob like me.

First question: the book I've seen is called a Pocketbook touch 840. Is that the same as the above identifiers? Or are they all different variations?

2nd question: will the likes of KOReader work on this model, giving it's age?

Last question (for now): what is the maximum image size the screen will take? I know it is 8 inch but that's the height and width? So I can correctly format my comic files.

Sorry for the long post, any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm not sure that the 840 was ever one of the "Touch" models (which all seem to have 6" screens). The first two Inkpad models were referred to as 840. I believe that they use the same firmware, so it wouldn't matter much which version you bought. The screen size is 1200x1600 pixels. I don't know the answer to question 2) because I have never tried to install koreader on my Inkpad 1. If koreader supports PocketBook firmware version 5 devices, then it should work on the Inkpad. Maybe someone else can answer that.

Thanks for the reply. https://uk.webuy.com/product-detail/...redFrom=basket This is the link to what I'm looking at. So far I'm pretty sure it's a '1' or original model and not a '2'. From the looking I've done I agree, 'Touch' seems to be a completely different varient to the 840.

And thank you for the screen size, think my brain was getting confused between pixels and mm (I'm still learning about e-readers and image sizes).

Hopefully I'll be able to order it this weekend and have it next week, then I can try to install KOReader and maybe a cbz / CBR reader but if that doesn't work I can always use KCC to turn my comics into mobi.

Yes, that looks like an Inkpad 1 (the buttons are nearly hidden on the right side). As far as reading CBZ/CBR goes, besides koreader, you can use the pbimageviewer application I have been developing, as well. One way or another, you will have a way to read those types of files.

Thanks for that. Have downloaded your app ready for when it arrives. So I just copy pbimageviewer.app to app folder on device then edit config file to point CBR / CBZ towards it? Or is there a config for the app itself?
