MacBook suddenly won't recognize Libra H20

Hello,

Long time Kobo reader (3 generations), first major issue. My 2016 MacBook Pro (model right before the touchbar) suddenly won't recognize my Libra H20 plugged in. The ereader asks if I want to connect and then starts charging, but the MacBook does not register. This has not happened before.

I was running Big Sur. I updated to Monterrey, still nothing. I plugged it into my wife's 2019 MacBook pro (also running Big Sur) and it worked just fine.

I've updated the firmware, updated Calibre and plug-ins just in case, everything. My Macbook doesn't even register a new storage device plugged in.

Help!

I am running the latest firmware and updated from Big Sur to Monterrey, no luck.

Should also mention my computer recognizes an external hard drive and USB drive, but not my Kobo for some reason.

Try replacing the USB cable.

Unfortunately no, I tried multiple and no luck. I also used that cable with my wife's MacBook and it worked just fine.

Was hoping this was a known issue, but it seems not...

There have been plenty of different issues with MACs over the years. Different upgrades of the OS or the hardware have lead to different things. They range from simple things like the OS mounting the device read-only, to something preventing the device being recognised. There were changes in one of the recent firmware (not sure if it was in 4.28.x or 4.30.x) to help them be seen, but, I understood that was with the M1 based MACs, not the older ones. It might be worthwhile rolling back the firmware to test if that was the cause. But, I think it is more like a change on the MAC. Either a "fix" or a change in permissions blocking the device.

Beyond that, I can only suggest searches here to see how people have solved problems. I don't have a MAC, and have no personal experience with them.

Have you installed any new applications recently?

Any new software/hardware that needed drivers recently?

Is your Mac connected to any other external device using another USB port?

Just letting you know it's "Mac", not "MAC" (gets confusing just because MAC means something different).

I've had very sporadic connection issues. Every time it's been solved with a restart.

I could have sworn I went looking at some point and it was all uppercase. But, looking now it definitely isn't.
