No books showing as 'On Device'
Hello,
When I plug in my Samsung Galaxy tablet, it takes a much longer time than normal to process (the 'Jobs' indicator in the lower right stays at 1 for about 10 minutes before finishing). After that, no books have an indicator in the 'On Device' column, even though there are a lot of books (EPUB, MOBI) in the BOOKS directory on my storage card. I has worked fine for a long time and I am not exactly sure when/how things went wrong. I am pretty sure that I have updated Calibre a couple of times since the last time I plugged my tablet in to administer the books on the tablet. Whenever I see an indicator that there is a new version of Calibre, I do the update immediately. I took a look at the 'metadata.calibre' file in the root directory of the storage card, and it seems to have the names of the books that should be there, but the 'timestamp' and the 'authors' tags all seem to be blank. I dont know if they were blank when Calibre was working properly or not. Any ideas on what went wrong and how I can fix it? Thanks in advance. --Jim |

Also, once my tablet finishes loading up, if I go to the 'Card A' button and click 'Show Books in Storage Card A', I get a list of all the books that are on the device, but the 'Title' and 'Author' fields show as 'Unknown'. The 'Date' and 'Size' columns are all different, so it makes me think that it truly IS seeing my books, but is missing some crucial information.

the scan time hints that the metadata.calibre file is missing.
Calibre write 2 files in the root of the drive (as appears to the PC) at the completion of the scan. These identify both the Calibre (Library) that did the scan and where things were found. LEAVE THEM ALONE (unless you want to do a full scan again ![]() Can you see the Books (or whatever it is called ) from the PC? (Direct to device downloads may not be accessible to the PC) |

No, the 'driveinfo.calibre' file is there, and it is populated, but I am not sure that it has the correct information in it.....it is not a large file at all.
I am currently using version 5.33 64Bit I am gonna play around with this a bit......add a couple of books and see what new information ends up in the 'metadata.calibre' file and compare it to what is already there. If I end up having to delete all of the books from my tablet and re-add them from Calibre library, that isnt the end of the world... |

No luck......I upgraded to 5.33.2 and when I connected the tablet, it didnt take long at all for the Jobs to finish (just a second or so) and now, only the one new book that I added shows up as being 'On Device'.
Also, when I look in the 'metadata.calibre' file, the entry for that new book has all of the fields populated, such as 'Timestamp', 'Author_Sort' etc. Is there anything else that I should try? Last edited by MrJamesEMcBride; 12-07-2021 at 06:24 AM. |

Ha! I took a look at another post in this forum called 'Error listing epubs in Android devices ' and the advice was to uncheck the 'Scanned Folders' in settings and then re-check them. That SEEMS to have solved the issue for me.
When I look in the 'metadata.calibre' file (which is about 6-7x larger than before), it looks like there is much more data populated. I hope that this post as well as the other one help to narrow down what happened in the newer version of Calibre. |

Delete the metadata.calibre file and let calibre rebuild it.

Thank you, Mr Goyal for your help and for creating such an awesome program.
I dont think I have made any kind of donation yet for this program, and I plan to do so soon. |
