A collection of six stories, written in collaboration with four other authors, with an introductory essay on “The Art and Mystery of Collaboration.” There are tales about the ups and downs of romance; a pair of stories looking askance at magic and magicians; and the final tale (with F. Anstey), about two schoolboys attempting to summon a djinn, is rather reminiscent of Edith Nesbit’s work.

James Brander Matthews (February 21, 1852 – March 31, 1929) was an American writer and educator. He was the first full-time professor of dramatic literature at an American university and played a significant role in establishing theater as a subject worthy of formal study in the academic world. He was a prolific writer of fiction and non-fiction, with over thirty books published.
