Exclamation KA1: had to reset after 4.30.18838 update, now Calibre won't recognise it

A few days ago my Kobo Aura One (released 2016) informed me it had an update available. I let it download the update, it restarted to apply it, and I ended up with a boot loop with the three dots in the middle of the screen forever loading.

Had to hard reset by holding the power button for more than 30 seconds, and as a consequence, I lost all my books, highlights, notes and everything. Now the KA1 finally boots and shows firmware has been updated to version 4.30.18838, but Calibre wouldn't allow me to send any book to it, saying:

Code:
Kobo database version unsupported
I'm obviously using the latest version of Calibre.

Has anybody experienced this with their Kobo e-reader?

And if you pressed the "Details" button you will get a explanation about what is going on. Or search for the message or firmware version. That would lead to the latest example https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=342861 or https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=342708. Which interestingly enough, you posted in.

Is this a particular problem with the Aura One (database version unsupported)? The Aura One has been out for a very long time, so shouldn't it already be supported by Calibre? Or is this a bug particular to the Aura One or this version of Calibre/plugin?

And I did read the other threads, and both the Clara HD and Aura One are older devices, so there shouldn't be a problem with a database version message?

Just trying to understand the problem.

I think the message about unsupported database appears every time there has been a Kobo firmware update, but the Kobo driver in Calibre has not been updated yet. I.e. you should wait for the next Calibre release to not see the message anymore. And it happens with every Kobo model, AFAIK.

I believe you are right. I forgot about this. Thanks.

Every new firmware unless David has time to bump the firmware version supported by Calibre.

Typically it’s safe to do as is suggested in the firmware thread and enable supporting unknown versions since Kobo have generally not changed enough between firmware updates for it to be an issue.

With every firmware update someone, typically David, will mention if it’s indeed safe to do this.

Each new model also needs to be added but there’s nothing the end users can do to make Calibre see a new model as a Kobo. Well short of coding in support but that’s generally beyond most of our abilities.

I had to factory reset my Clara HD due to a database issue and now after updating I have the same unsupported message. However I can still transfer books over OK through calibre, but I can no longer manage collections or remove books on the device via Calibre

Until the next update to calibre is released, follow the instructions in the error message and enable Attempt to support newer firmware. This is found on the Metadata on device & advanced tab for both the KoboTouch and KoboTouchExtended driver so enable it on the one you use or both since that does no harm. See attached image.
