Hi from Chicago

Hi. I just got a month-old Sony 505 reader from someone who needed the cash more than the books, I guess. I paid $150 including case and charger, so I think I got a good deal. I was looking at the Kindle, but decided against because 1) it's sold out; 2) don't need the wireless newspaper access as I have web access 24/7 anyway; 3) loved the look and feel of the 505; 4) would rather download free public domain books and rent from library than buy Amazon copies.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll have a few questions along the way. I'm using a Mac at home, so I got Calibre right away, and seem to be off to a good start.

Hi snert and welcome to the Forum. I got a 505 back in January and really like. Expect you will to. And I've read a ton of free books and borrowed a few from out local library. It's a good deal.

Hello back, also from Chicago. Great weather today, huh? I also have the 505 and love it. I stopped at the Borders on Randolph last night and the lady demonstrating the Readers herself has a 505 and confided that she much prefers it to the 700. Her sentiment was the same as mine, "I read. I don't browse, I don't subscribe, I don't highlight, and don't care if a button or a swipe turns the page".

I'll keep you in mind for the next time we organize an ebook party.

Hi, from just outside of Chicago. Glad you joined the forum -- lotsa good info here! I've got the Kindle, and consider it great too. Whee -- scads and scads of books, and they all fit in a purse or briefcase!
