Import kindle highlights to mac version

I would like to import highlight/notes from personal documents on my Kindle Paperwhite to the Kindle App on Mac. In other words, I want to have my highlights accessible on the Mac Kindle app in context of the actual book, not just as an exported clippings file. Is there any way to do this besides manually re-highlighting the notes on the Mac Kindle app? Thanks for your help.

I am more familiar with the Kindle for PC app, but since no one else has answered I will take a stab at this.

Because the Mac app does not support personal documents synchronized with an Amazon account you would need to manually transfer the file containing that information from your Paperwhite. The file format that holds that information is different across the various Kindle apps and platforms so you would need software that would import the .mbp1 (for MOBI) or .azw3r (for KF8) Paperwhite file and convert it to the .mbpV2 format (as far as I know) used by the Mac app.

I don't believe that anyone has done this so far. It would take some software development. And there may be other problems with this approach that I haven't thought of.

The Kindle for iOS app does handle personal documents so if you can find a way to run that on your Mac it might provide an alternative approach.
