Got a Poke 3. Best Practices?
Been playing with it a bit. Is it best to stick with the apps built into it's app store, or is it better to install google play? I've read about the apps being tuned for e-ink, but I didn't feel like that was really the case with the Kindle app. The majority of my library is with kindle, but I wanted a more flexible device.
I currently have a bunch of books from humble bundle and elsewhere that I've sorted with Calibre. Does anyone know of a dedicated OPDS browser/downloader? My current tack is to use Librera to download books and using the built-in reader to actually read them. |

I think that you'll find there are as many ways of handling content/apps on ereaders as there are people.
I think one dividing line is whether you use Calibre or not. It seems that a lot of people do. I'm not very big on having lots of apps and I use Google Play sparingly. I'm actually not very interested in anybody's app store. I only download to my desktop, from lending libraries and Gutenberg. From there I sync to my devices using my own AdbSync.exe (in sig). I'll have to look into this OPDS business, thanks! |

I manage my library at home on my computer with Caliber, transfer it to my reading devices via WiFi with Caliber Companion and read epub with the AlReader, Kindle books with the Kindle app. Adobe DRM books with the Pocketbook App and for lending libraries there are Libby or OverDrive and for the "Onleihe" the Onleihe app. I only use the NeoReader for pdf or cbr / cbz. |

I love Onleihe. I use it for Goethe Institut free lending of German books to foreigners. https://www.onleihe.de/goethe-institut/ At the very least, they tell you how many pages in a book. You get a book from Overdrive, sign it out for 7 days, then realize it's a zillion pages long. Or the converse, you're all set to settle down with a book and discover it's less than 100 pages. I know, page count in digital is approximate, but I've borrowed books from 60 pages to 1100. At least give me a hint! |
