[Content Server Reader] Read Aloud issue
Dear Kovid,
On my mobile (Chrome, Android 11), I hit the Read aloud, a popup window appears, saying "Error: Speaking failed An error has occurred with speech synthesis: synthesis-failed." I remember it worked before, when you first intro this feature. However, if I select texts (words or paragraphs) and use the Read aloud button on the action/behavior bar, it works What do you think the reason could be? |

Probably it's hitting some limit on the max size of read aloud text. There have been no changes to read aloud calibre side, so likely the mobile browsers have changed.

You are right. There is a limit, but the limit is 4 pages (Calibre count). I tried chapters of 4-3-2 pages, the read-aloud was ok, but not if longer than that.
Any suggestions? |

According to this: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/...Utterance/text
the limit is 32K characters which calibre already respects. If you can find some reference for a smaller limit, I can change it to that. Or you can experiment yourself, see the function speak_marked_text in tts.pyj |

Literally I have no idea what that means.
If Calibre can't handle this for technical reasons, I hope it will in the future. For now, I will use Reasily or Moon+ Reader to read the ebooks for me. It is not prioritized anyway. Thank you. |
