all of my word docs converted to calibre

All of my word documents in files that are not related to calibre have been converted to calibre documents. I do not know how this has happened. I am a novice calibre user. They do not appear in my calibre programme window anywhere, but all of my word docs saved to the cloud have been affected.

I note that a similar post appeared on 11-25-2019 by fsommers. The response was that not all files are converted and to look for them, as they will still be there. I have done this and ALL of my word docs have been converted. PDFs have not.

Please help!

They are not converted. Just the default program for opening them has changed to Calibre for some reason.

Right-click on one of them, select "Open with" from the menu, select "Choose another app", check "Always use this app" on the bottom and select the program you want associated with these files from the list. That should fix the issue.

The above applies if you're on Windows. I know nothing about MacOS or Linux.

Linux Mint is similar.
Word 2003 actually runs on WINE, but LO Writer is my default for wordprocessing.

It's easy to change by accident.

And while you are fixing the file associations, turn on the option to show file extensions so you aren't confused by this again. I have never understood why MS turned this off by default.
