styling annotations in Calibre

I would like to style the annotations that I have stored in Calibre. I know how to get them off the reader (Kobo Libra H20), and have deduced how to alter the timestamp, but I can't work out if there is a way that I can globally alter the way that it styles them. I currently have chapter headings and timestamp on a white (more like grey) bar, with the annotation below in plain text. I would like to know if there is a way to style the bar so it is a different colour (or cycles through colours, as Calibre seems to suggest [although I cannot now recall where]), or how to have a page number instead of a (sometimes long) chapter title each time. etc. blah. If anyone can help, I'd be chuffed.

Those annotations appear to have been fetched from the device using the Annotations plugin. If so, the plugin has some configuration for the styles used. These are applied when the annotations are fetched or updated. But, changing the configuration does not affect annotations already in the library. You should be able to change the colour of the bar, but, will not be able to change the bar to automatically alternate colours.

You can manually edit the styles of existing annotations using the metadata editor, but, that will change the formatting and may cause problems when you fetch the annotations for the book again.

thank you. I'm not interested in editing the style of annotations once added, as it would be too much work. I wanted to know if there is a more sophisticated way of controlling the appearance of annotations, but it seems not. I found the image (attached) that seems to suggest different colours, although I cannot work out how that is done, or if it can be done.

I have discovered that I can add some code to the timestamp to edit the bar colour
