Yes, there is a watermark in the Kindle eBooks even after the DRM has been removed. So if you do put them on the net, they can be traced back to whoever purchased it.
So given that you don't trust your friends enough to not release these eBooks onto the net, don't give them a copy. You could get in pretty big trouble. |

The answer from JSWolf does not apply only to Kindle books sold with DRM. Many books are sold DRM-free and those also contain a watermark.
I support social measures like watermarks to discourage piracy so I decline to provide assistance with their removal. |

I guess you live in a nice country then. Lucky you !
Here our politicians show us the way of scheming. And when they do very bad things, they escape justice thanks to some strings well pulled. So compare to all of that, year after year, sharing some books raise no more guilt. |

Wholesale piracy harms authors and is a different issue in my opinion. |

I've removed DRM on Kindle books just to be able to read what I've bought legitimately on different devices, correct scan errors and control my own library. There really doesn't have to be a personal distribution network involved and I personally wouldn't trust one.
It's interesting that Google Books began with the values you've expressed (books should be free, if I read you correctly) as its principle. That didn't last, however. Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 07-18-2021 at 12:56 PM. |
