Cracked screen on Onyx Boox Note Pro

It happens again. I cracked the screen of my e-reader. Functionality seems still good, but I have a web of cracks obscuring the text and typing seems more prone to errors.

Does anyone know what the function of the glass front layer is?

Does anyone know whether and how it can be repaired? If so, does anyone know what the costs involved are whether it falls under warranty?

Edit: outside forces such as liquid or cracks, do not fall within the scope of warranty.

Contact Onyx customer service and they can get your screen replaced. You will have to send it to one of their service centers, mostly likely one in Europe. My Note 3 glass replacement cost about $180 US a while ago. Expensive, but I have to say they did a perfect job. Good luck!

Do you know what the functionality of the front layer is? Is it smart or just a glass plate?

Does anyone know what controls the font size? It normal on my e-reader and PC, but rather small on my Hisense mobile. When I change to advanced editing, the font size returns to normal. So it's only very small with 'quick reply'.

Apparently, it is used to transport the light evenly across the screen.

I wonder whether I can replace it myself, if that's its functionality. I think 180$ is indeed rather expensive. However, I'll wait for a repair quote. Maybe it's more modest than that.
