Question Is there a way to manually edit TOC
I'm having trouble using "edit TOC" tool with several books, since it crashes whenever I try to add a new TOC entry.

So, I'm wondering if there's a way to manually add TOC entries, like using HTML editor or something alike?

Use the edit book tool. Though if th etoc editor is crashing that will probably crash too.

Do you mean clicking "edit toc" button from within "edit book" tool? If so, that doesn't work indeed. If not, some more instructions would be appreciated.

Works for me. Your book must be triggering a bug. Or you are running 5.19 which someone in another thread said has a bug in the TOC editor. (I haven't tested 5.19 yet.)

No I mean use the editor to edit the toc.ncx file by hand.

It sounds like something may be wrong with your ToC. Please post one of the ToC that crashes (in a code block) so we can see what might be wrong.
