Week and a Half with the 700

OK, got the 700 last Tuesday (9th of December) My impressions after a week and a half (four books read so far)

Fit and Finish - Excellent in my opinion. Feels very solid, interface very easy to use. I like the uncluttered look of it. nice cover. I like the look of it very much.

CPU speed - excellent - I have seen the 505 and played with one. The 700 is faster in my opinion (the 505 seemed clunky after using the 700). I originally thought that the touch screen would be of little or no use but I was wrong. I started using it immediately. Very easy to navigate. I looked at the 505 again after getting the 700 and caught myself trying to touch the screen.

Screen - yes, there is a difference but not a deal breaker to me. Glare? yes there is but I just move it a little to remove the glare (the 505 has glare too) Sidelighting - I was put off by this at first. It doesn't illuminate the center as much as the sides (low light setting - high is much better) but after getting into the book I started not noticing this at all. I like not having to have a light attached to the reader and having to keep up with it when I carry my reader around (which I do a lot).

I am glad I bought this one over the 505.

What will be the next generation of Sony book reader? I don't know but I am waiting for it to come out.

I highly recommend the Bookarmor cover. I bought one for my reader and I really like it. Quality product.

It is very neat to be able to have several books to read wherever I go in a small package like the 700. I tend to be a voracious reader. Especially if I get into a book that is good. If it's a relatively easy read and I am enjoying it - I'll finish it in about one to two days. My only problem I see with the 700 is my book buying budget. The books on the Sony site (in my opinion are pretty much in line as far as cost with other sites) I see too much I want to read and have to watch myself. The software works ok for me - I have no problems with it so far.

Is the 505 not worth it? of course not - it's a good reader too. I just like the 700 better. To each his own. Price differrence in the readers? yes but to me (and again this is my opinion only) very much worth the extra cost.
