Kobo K080 Worth Keeping or Not

Hi,

So I brought a cheap ereader off ebay because I wasn't sure if it was something I was going to use often enough to justify the price. I brought a KO80 which as it turns out is discontinued and I can't get passed the setup page because it keeps trying to update which it can't because discontinued.

I was planning to use Calibre anyway, is there any way around this issue or have I basically brought a brick?

It seems you bought the Kobo Vox, which is not actually a dedicated ereader, but a cheap Android tablet. Its screen is not eink, but an ordinary tablet screen. So if you wanted to get an impression how it feels to use a typical ereader, then unfortunately the Kobo Vox isn't it.

I would not keep a 10-years-old cheapo Android tablet, even if it worked. YMMV, of course.

Return it if you can.If not, you'll have to just deal with the fact that you got a dud.

You'll want to get an eInk Kobo Reader.

As @Sirtel that is a Kobo Vox which is an Android based device. Kobo stopped selling these a few years ago and dropped all support for them about two years ago. The latter means they cannot connect to do the setup. There is discussion on this in the Kobo Tablets subforum. I don't know if it can be setup or not.

Thanks guys, looks like I'll be returning the brick and saving up to buy a proper ereader.
