Note Pro Scratches UNDER Screen?!

Hi guys. I have the Note pro (I think the first model) and though I love the thing after a year or two I noticed the outer edge started getting some weird scratches/bubbles under the screen. I have never scratched it, it appears to be some kind of glue under the glass that is starting to show. Or maybe the front light caused some sort of reaction with a layer under the top of the screen. Not sure how many layers the Boox screen has but the bubbles and scratches around the edge are definitely under the top (maybe light diffuser)? Maybe the glue used to attach all the layers reacts or breaks down over time?

Kinda disappointed in the qc, I babied this thing. Hopefully the newer models dont get it. boox cs so far have been helpful in repairing it, will update if they follow through.

Anyone have any idea what this could be? Any potential fixes?

@toushi Not Good! Not good at All! I only have my NotePro for 9months now, but I would hate for that to happen.
To me it looks like the lattice work of the back plastic back panel, such as I found in the Kobo's. Gravity would put pressure on the screen to force it onto the back panel. I'll open it up one of these days: If there is indeed such a lattice, I'll have to fill it with something...Don't know what yet, because all the usual materials would make the reader more heavy.
Is there a disassembly of the Note Pro with pictures here on mobileread? Then we would know.

EDIT:
From the photo's of the Note disassembly, I don't see enough lattice work that would explain this. The metal frame supporting the screen should be smooth on the screen side.

Did it start with a yellowish color at the edges? Never noticed it before. I've attached a picture.

Yes it doesnt affect the function so far in any way but is really annoying and makes reading text along the edges harder. The cs agent described it as ‘bright spots,’ but it seems like some sort of glue because of the strange lattice nautical pattern. It is all along the outside border where the screen meets the black. I can’t think of anything that caused this aside from maybe the using the frontlight? It showed up after a year or a year and a half, just something to lookout for.

Yes it happened about a year or year and a half in, it doesn’t affect function but makes reading along the edges harder and is annoying. The cs agent described it as ‘bright spots,’ but the strange diagonal pattern makes me think its some glue or something with the construction that shows up later. I couldnt find anything on screen disassembly for onyx either, but the kobo has a diffusing layer for front lights, i’m wondering if its something to do with that. It’s all along the outside edge of the screen where it meets the black.

Yes not sure if they’re correlated, but my outside edge along the screen was a bit darker/ yellow before this happened too. Might not happen to you but something to keep an eye on. I babied the ereader so not sure what could have caused it.

It happened to me about a year and a half in. The cs agent described it as ‘bright spots.’ I haven’t disassembled it or found anything online for boox, but kobo has a light diffusing layer underneath so I’m wondering if it has something to do with that. But the pattern all along the sides tells me the problem is along the edge and not some uniform pressure thing. It’s all along the outside edge where the screen meets the black.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to provide an update. Never figured out what the issue was, but Boox customer service was surprisingly good (i was scared i wouldnt get any help). I was out of the warranty period, but they still replaced my screen for me with a brand new screen. Seems like they have a contract with a repair shop out in michigan that does repairs for them, i just had to pay for shipping to them. Im glad they repaired it, hopefully the issue doesnt crop up again, but im happy with their cs for now and because of this will still consider buying boox readers in the future as well
