Calibre highlight markdown export chapter title inclusion

I understand Calibre can export highlights at markdown file with link backs to location in the epub file.

My question is about an option to keep the notes in the same organization as the Calibre book reader ie under chapter titles.

Basically I need the notes to be broken apart by chapter headings.

Folks, I see this is an old post, but maybe someone could point me in the right direction.
Specifically, when I use the Annotation Browser to export my notes and highlites into markdown (for subsequent processing in Obsidian) the chapter headings are not included. you dont need to do anything, other than update calibre, all releases of calibre after that commit have the feature automatically.

Kovid, thanks for your response. I have tried this with versions 6.27 and the latest 6.28.1 - what am I doing wrong?
The process is as follows:
1. Open annotation browser
2. Select the annotations I want to export (notes and highlights)
3. Click on "Export all selected" button
4. Select "Markdown" option a from the dialog box
5. Save as file

This generates the .md file that contains:
a. Name of the book (title)
b. Highlights and notes
c. Link with a date/time stamp referencing the location of the specific annotation in the viewer.

All my highlights and notes are showing fine but it is imposible to tell which chapter they belong to. That is the chapter names are excluded from the export and I can't find a way to include them into the export. What am I missing?

Works for me, if the highlights are showing under chapter headings in the viewer the same chapter headings will be present on export.

Also, I have tried this with several different epubs - no luck. All books tested have the chapters / sub-chapters showing in TOC

You need ot open them in the viewer and they need ot be annotations created after that fix was made.

Instead of posting images to a third party site, go into advanced mode and use the paperclip tool or the Manage Attachments button to include the images with your message.

Kovid, please see the attached screenshots.

I made the annotations in the viewer and they were created recently (after the fix). The screenshot shows my highlight under the header. The second screen shows that the export results do not includ the headers. I will experiment with a couple of more files and will report back.

Look at the raw markdown rather than the rendered version, i.e. paste it in a text editor like notepad to eliminate another source of issues

As you can see there are chapter headings even multi-level ones, as expected. If you have a book where this isnt working, open a bug report and attach the epub file.

Unfortunately the headers are not in the .md file. The content of the .md file is below.

Is there a link to the "how-to" of the bug report process I could use. I will test this with several other files and will attach two or three different ones just to be sure.
