Angry DRM Where do I go from here?

Some months back installed LinuxMint 20.1 on my Desktop and Laptop. Last few days have setup Calibre on my Desktop. Today I imported my 330 books purchased from Amazon over past years. Now when I try to open I am confronted by this DRM junk. What I see using the Calibre is, I like it very much. But what must I do to get around this DRM inconvenience? To purchase these books and now find out they don't belong to me. Shades of Windows many, many years ago. That was junk then too.

So where do I go from here? Calibre is useless, but I want to use it. By the way I am 81 years old. Made it this far. Thanks for your help.

Did you install and configure the DeDRM plugin. It is not part of the stock calibre install.

See Apprentice Alf's blog for more information and to ask for assistance if needed.

No I have not installed. I see where User Plug Ins require version 5 of Calibre. My install at bottom shows 4.99.4 So where do I go to upgrade to 5+?

As for DeDRM I have no idea what to do here. Version 7.1.0 Full Release shows only for Calibre 5 and above. What does this software do for me or for Calibre?

Also see where there are many, many plugins for Calibre. Could not locate DeDRM Plugin over there.

So yes I am asking for much needed assistance? What should I download and where? How to configure.? What am I configuring? To do what? etc Thank you

Install the latest version of Calibre from here

Then download the deDRM plugin from Apprentice Alf. It's not with the other Calibre plugins and must be installed separately. Read the instructions included in the zipped folder you downloaded.

As sirtel mentions, you need to run the install from the calibre download page. What you have is a beta of calibre 5. Generally, speaking and going by the number of people who have posted in this forum, using an outdated repository version of calibre is not a good idea.

Well I have updated Calibre according to instructions. All went well so far as I know.

Now trying to install the DeDRM Plugin. Once again following instructions, but I cannot locate any text on the User Plugins Page showing "Load PlugIn From File".

So where is it located? Thanks for all the help.

Have imported all my 330 books. A few are opening. However most are not giving me message about DRM. So once again where do I go from here with those that won't open? Thanks.

Were they already in Calibre when you installed the Alf plugin? If so, delete them and import them again.

No they were not. Originally they were, but I deleted everything that I had imported before installing the plugin. I will try a reboot. See if that makes any changes. Thanks. Will get back with you after the reboot.

Unfortunately we cannot give detailed help here, as strictly speaking the DRM removal is illegal. You have to ask on the Apprentice Alf blog.

One question: how are you importing your books? Which method are you using?
