Instructions for patching on Windows, Linux, or macOS with kobopatch:

1. Download the Kobo firmware release
   You can find the download links here here.
2. Download and extract the patch zip
   Download and unzip kobopatch_4.26.16704.zip from here.
3. Copy the firmware file to the src folder
   Copy the original firmware you just downloaded into the kobopatch src folder.
4. Install the firmware if needed
   Install the firmware on your kobo BEFORE proceeding with the next steps. You can do this by extracting the contents of the firmware zip into the .kobo folder and ejecting.
5. Choose your patches from the files in the src folder
   Enable patches in the files in the src folder (or use the overrides in kobopatch.yaml to keep your options separate).
6. Run kobopatch
   Double-click kobopatch.bat on Windows, or run ./kobopatch.sh on Linux or macOS. On macOS, you can drag it into the terminal and press enter (you may need to go to System Preferences - Security and Privacy - General to confirm that you actually want to run it).
7. Install the patches by copying KoboRoot.tgz into the .kobo folder of your device
   If the patching succeeded, a file named KoboRoot.tgz will be created in the out folder. Copy it to the .kobo folder of your device. Safely remove your device once you are finished. On Linux, you may have to press Ctrl+H to show the .kobo folder.

nickel.yaml patch Custom new header/footer font has been renamed to Custom header/footer captions

It now contains an extra feature (enabled by default) in Part 3 to allow extra width for footer caption text. See the patch's Description and Help Notes in nickel.yaml for more details. Before/after screenshots can be seen here.

Hello, I was wondering if there could be a patch to change the maximum of warmth of the automatic "Natural light" mode.
It's actually gradually going from white to really orange when it's bed time. I wold rather prefer to set the maximum of warmth to something more subtle in this mode.

I confirm this solution does not work for me, it does start to warm the screen later than it should as a side effect. Will start to dig into the file structure / OS as I don't know much about Kobo yet.

This is my very FIRST post on Mobileread, so forgive me if I am in the wrong place. I do rather feel inept considering all the experience and knowledge on this site so I would be very grateful for help on the following...

I have Kobo Clara HD with the latest Kobopatch Firmware installed.

I wish to change the font and font size in the dictionary but simply do not understand how or where exactly to enter this information in that section.

I wish to double size the font and default font to Kobo UD Kakugo,

From your post it's not clear what you've done so far. In outline you need to:

1. Open the libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml file in your text editor of choice.
2. Find and Enable the patch named Dictionary text font-family/font-size/line-height
3. Read the patch's fairly lengthy Description which contains background info. When you get to the 'Kobo defaults' your ClaraHD uses the same values as the GloHD listed.
4. Move down to the 'Stage 2' section of the patch and read the Help Notes. This is where you can apply your customisations for font-size/font-family/line-height.
   • Change font-size: find the line which allows you to specify your own font-size. You'll need to un-comment it, i.e. remove the hash (#) character from the beginning. Change the red "32px" to whatever value you want
     

       # Un-comment and edit next line to change font-size
       - ReplaceString: {Offset: 16, Find: "%1px", Replace: "32px", MustMatchLength: yes}

   • Change font-family: un-comment one of the included examples to replace the default Georgia with 'KBJ-UDKakugo Pr6N M'. (note the single quotes around the name because the new font-family contains spaces). Make sure your Find and Replace strings are exactly the same length.
     

       - ReplaceString: {Offset: 54, Find: "Georgia              ", Replace: "'KBJ-UDKakugo Pr6N M'", MustMatchLength: yes}

If you still can't figure it out you'll need to provide a lot more details about what you've tried and any error messages you saw.
