Kindle Keyboard serial number

I’ve acquired a Kindle Keyboard with a dead battery that can’t be resuscitated. However, I didn’t want it as a reading device, only as one I could register so that I could download Kindle purchases for USB transfer. So my question is, if I pry it open, will the serial number be inside somewhere so I can register it with that? Or is this a non-starter in more than one sense?

I don't think you can register a Kindle manually, without connecting it to a wifi network. I may be wrong, though.

Ah, you made me look. You used to be able to register with only a serial number, but no longer.

Back to the drawing board.

Try to use another battery (just to keep it on for 5 min and sign in)

You may be able to register it by calling customer service. I had to do that with my K1 a few years ago, as it wouldn't connect to the network. So...if there *is* a way to get the serial number without turning it on, you could try it that way.

This was a brilliant suggestion and motivated me to crack the KK’s case. Alas, I couldn’t find the serial number inside, which rather surprised me. Plenty of numbers, but none conforming to the B00x of the standard Kindle serial number. Unless I overlooked it (entirely possible) and someone can point me to the right place.

I tried removing the battery and on plugging it in the charging light still showed, but it wouldn’t run off the plugged-in power.
