Angry Programmed obsolescence or low-end screen

After 17 months of use, the screen dropped out between readings. I read in the evening and in the morning no more screen. The reader is still "functional" but only the lower part of the screen still responds.

This is disappointing for a £156 reader. It is guaranteed for two years but the repair policy is appalling and the answer is "mechanical fault" which is not covered, it will cost 100€ in repair costs. I would be surprised to know what is mechanical in this reading light as it is tactile.

They make fun of the customer and win on all fronts...

I'm not ready to recommend this reading light or to buy a new one from the brand...

An omission the model is a PoketBook Touch HD 3 reader that has never been dropped, never received a shock and has always been protected in its case.

That's a shattered substrate. You may think it never received a shock, but it looks very much like it was hit near the middle on the right hand side. Or something pressed down on it at that point.

It's just possible that this is a manufacturing fault in that some part of the internal case is not as smooth and flat as it should be and has been pressing on the screen enough that it eventually broke. But how you'd prove that I don't know.

It's a broken screen. The screen doesn't just break. So it's not covered under warranty.

We've had a number of posts about broken screens from different brands/models and the owner has no idea how it happened. You are not alone.

Your photo clearly shows that this is not true.

Sorry, but you forgot to label your Subject Heading correctly. A third choice is needed:

Programmed obsolescence or low-end screen or broken substrate

The correct answer is the last choice. Sorry for your misfortune.

He went to Poland to Fixit for the guarantee. I will see their decision, but I will have it repaired because it is a good ebook reader.

I don't know how it could have happened...
