Ereader running Android -- which good options are out there?
I'll need to replace my trusty ereader soonish -- I have to charge it daily now.
I want my new one to run Android, so I can run Calibre Companion and the Norwegian library app. I see people writing good things about Onyx Boox Poke (both 2 and 3). It's a bit more pricey than I'd prefer, but I'm willing to go that high if that's necessary to get Android. Are there any other brands and models I should look at? |

Onyx Boox seems to be your best choice and they have models with Android 10. I don't know of any other brand with Android 10 or later.

Thanks!
The apps I want to install don't seem to be very picky about Android version: Calibre Companion requires 5.0, and the other apps I want have even lower requirements, so I'd be OK with something running an older version, if there were other advantages. |

You could look at older, used Onyx and Boyue readers. The previous generation ran Android 6.0. If you can find a used one in good shape, you would save some money and have a device that meets your needs.
If you prefer a new device, Onyx and Boyue are your best bets. Boyue devices tend to be slightly less expensive than Onyx ones. Either would be a good choice. I personally find the Onyx devices to be a tad better overall. If Nook is available in Norway, the Nook Glowlight series runs Android 4.4.2. That may be too old an Android version for your needs. It would also require a little hacking to install apps. I'm not aware of anything else as of now. |

I see no reason to buy a Reader that's gong to become obsolete much sooner. It's false economy.

Thanks, downeaster59! I'll check out Bouye as well, and keep an eye out for used ereaders, although I'll probably go for a new one -- I'm willing to pay to avoid hassle and uncertainity

Thanks, that's a much nicer price than what I've found at home! I'll check how much the tariffs are when buying from abroad, and then take some time thinking about how cost-concious I want to be, or if I want to splurge.
