Author Unknown

By far, the vast majority of "books" in my Calibre Library are personal documents, currently over 14,000 of them.

When I add a document to Calibre the program automatically adds an author name: Unknown.

Is there a setting to either change the automatic author to my own name? Or is there a way to leave the author blank?

You can do a Bulk Metadata edit and change Unknown to whtever

That's what I was afraid of. Yes, That's what I've been doing all along. I had my fingers crossed hoping I could change the default : Unknown, to my own name. Guess it's not possible.

If the document is an epub, pdf, zip of html, and possibly others (markdown?) it is possible to designate an author directly in the document.

If the document contains no author, you can also set up a filename template that extracts metadata from the filename. Default is title, and maybe author. I know I modified mine to include author. (But if the book has metadata, it'll override what the template finds.)

Books added without an author will be set to Your Name.

Settings > Adding Books > Adding Actions: Control how authors are processed

Add Rule: Matches Regex Pattern: ^Unknown$
With the name: Your Name
