Does Kindle DX(G) at FW 2.5.8 have a root password?

Hello

I have a situation that another recent poster DaddyLongLegs described very well in thread 334640.

Quote:
I upgraded the firmware on my Kindle DX a few years back when Amazon put out that notice that if you didn't update it, you'd no longer be able to connect to the Kindle store. So I updated it to 2.5.8 and left it in my locker at work for quite some time.

I fired it up last week and noticed I could no longer connect it properly to the internet. I tried factory restoring and all that and it did nothing. This is the Kindle DX (G) that has free 3G (no wi-fi). Anyway, I could connect to the Kindle store but I couldn't download anything. I can't register it to me because every time I try it says it cannot connect to the internet.

I googled this quite a bit and it turns out it's because my Kindle thinks it's the year 1969. And the only way to fix it? Jailbreak it, of course! Which led me to this forum.

I believe I applied the jailbreak properly. I uploaded "Update_jailbreak_0.13.N_dxg_install.bin" to the root of my DX and applied the update.

My question is the following, because I haven't been able to figure out anything further on my own:
How do I SSH into my Kindle DX to set the correct time?
I got USBnetwork running, and I have been at the part where I SSH into my Kindle.
Differently to his case, where he succeeded in connecting once he noticed he had to specify "root" as the username when, the ssh process for me keeps on requesting a password when I "ssh root@<assigned_ip_address>".

I have mounted the kindle's drive and tried two things with sshd config to get around this: edited the <mnt>/usbnetwork/sshd_config file to accept empty passwords; I've also created an <mnt>/usbnetwork/authorized_keys file with a public key and then I supply the matching private key "ssh -i <something.pem> root@<ip_addr>". But these haven't been successful.

I don't know if the root user has a password or not. So much prior content in the forums indicates that it doesn't. But the ssh interaction I've been experiencing suggests that it does.

If anyone knows a A) an alternate way to configure SSH (server side and/or client side), B) what the root password is, or C) a non-SSH way to connect when using jailbreak 0.13.N(?) I'd be grateful for the help.

It's been pretty interesting finally jail-breaking this old DX that's been my good reading friend this last decade.
