Old cc for new android tablet?

My old tablet with the old cc just bit the dust. Getting a new tablet. Is there anyway to get the old cc (before the new regime) onto it? I know there have been many discussions here about how you can't go "back" to a previous version, but I was wondering if you never had it on your tablet if you could load an old version?

You can install any android version and block auto updates, there have been links posted for downloads if you search for them.
There is also calibre sync which is very basic but seems bug free, in the Google store. Not free.
