Is it possible to disable dithering?

So because android uses dithering the contrast is not great on onyx devices..
Is there a way to disable it?
Here you can see the difference between onyx air and remarkable 2

Both devices are not illuminated in this picture.
But that can be changed with Onyx.
Onyx has a somewhat darker screen due to the light guide film.
With Onyx, however, the contrast increases significantly as soon as the lighting is switched on.
Apart from that, the brightness as well as the contrast can be changed with Onyx.
But that has nothing to do with dithering.

There is a video (here) that compares a black yotaphone 2 with android 5 and a white yotaphone 2 with android 6. You can see that even though they have the same hardware the picture is washed out on android 6 like it is on onyx. I think that android 6+ has some wired dithering.

This has nothing to do with dithering, but only with the refresh treatment - and this can be set very diverse with Onyx-Boox devices.
There are some variants of dithering - but it is always required when a larger color gamut is displayed in lower (gray levels).
Without dithering, EInk only offers black and white, but no grayscale.

Ok thnx, do you think that increasing the contrast on onyx will make it look like the remarkable?
Anyone that has both devices maybe can post a pic?

It is only necessary to put on the light, that increases contrast - shows whiter to black than Remarkable and not grey to black as shown in the picture.

The difference between the two devices lies in the light guide layer from Boox, which, when not in use, darkens the image and thus reduces the contrast.
You can already see that in the introduction that the Boox picture is darker and that the light is not switched on, which can be seen from the fact that the light bulb is missing in the Android line.

The comparison shown in this video is manipulative in my eyes because the weak point (effect of the light guide layer) has been shown without showing the benefit of the lighting.

I have observed weaker contrast on a Poke Pro / Nova than on a Nook GL3 and, I think, even a Kindle 2. So it's not because of the light layer.

Did you compare it unlighted?
There should hardly be any differences, unless a device still has an infrared touchscreen (one layer less)
In general: each additional layer makes the screen darker and thus reduces the contrast.
Lighting makes it brighter and increases contrast.
And that's the only difference, because all EInk modules come from the same manufacturer, including the controls.

Yes and? A comparison of a device with to one without a Wacom Layer!
Each additional layer reduces the contrast, which can be adjusted with Boox devices.
But I think Boox devices might be too complicated for you.

First off all it is not a layer thing.. Here is remarkable 1 vs onyx note 1. Both have same layers..Remarkable has better contrast..

Second even if you adjust the contrast you can't get the same image!! You can see the original image and compare it to this. The kobo produces an image which is exactly the same as the original but on the onyx the penguin's head and hand are gray instead of black while the contrast is almost the same on both devices..

Do you really think so?
Then try to find on Remarkable side "Chris Bryant"
Remarkable has more light and dark, but bad grayscale - however, correct gray tones are more important.
Thank you for the picture - it shows the quality of Boox devices.

Finally we agree that remarkable has better contrast
Remarkable 2 fixed the grayscale, onyx didn't. Hope they fix it because a lot of people read mangas..
