Calibre shuts down when device connected

I have used Calibre for years with no problems. Now, it has recently begun shutting down as soon as I plug in my android tablet. I get no warning, no error log to send. I am so confused with this.

You told us what you attached: Android Tablet.
But you did not say one word about what OS or version that Calibre was running.
To be honest, that type of total crash is unusual, and I would suspect the PC's driver is corrupt.

I'm sorry I didn't give enough information. I am now using the latest 5.3 of Calibre; however it has happened with the last 2 Calibre versions. Previously it would reconnect on the 2nd or 3rd retry and I could transfer books. Now, Calibre closes immediately upon communication with my Samsung tablet. These two have played together perfectly for the last 3 years. The driver idea is interesting. Could you suggest which driver and how to update or repair it? Not one of my strengths. Btw, I took all books out of Calibre and it still refuses to talk to the tablet. Oh, and OS is Windows 10.

Sadly there are a few MTP devices that cause a crash in the windows portable driver infrastructure. I ahve never been able to get my hands on one so have not been able to fix it. You can try resetting the device, or alternately use one of the wireless connection methods described here: https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...kindle-fire-hd

Jumping back in here. I think you might be right about the drivers. I checked both drivers for the tablet and the usb tablet connection. both say they are working properly, but...exploring in events I get this message:
Device USB\VID_04E8&PID_6860&MS_COMP_MTP&SAMSUNG_Android\ 6&2eacc67c&0&0000 requires further installation.

So, I know you are not my personal consultant, but if you could give me any suggestions for a direction from here, I would be grateful. Thanks.
