EPUB to PDF background rectangle
Hi, when converting from EPUB to PDF I get white background rectangles on each page, that cover the area behind the text (inner area of the page without margins). Is there a way to disable this from happening?
I'm running Calibre 5.2.0 on MacOS. |

Here is how it looks in my phone reader when I've set background mode to grey for easier reading: https://ibb.co/kctFw5Y
And here is the white rectangle shape seen in Adobe Acrobat when I go to edit: https://ibb.co/x1DGxt8 |

It is a conversion option (look and feel) to remove Colors (background)

Changing the background color for a PDF file is not going to work. Read the EPUB directly on your phone. EPUB readers typically have settings for this. Certainlyt he builtin EPUB viewer in the calibre content server does.

Checking this option did not prevent the background shape from creating, because the original EPUB file doesn't have any background to be removed. It's something that the converter ads on its own in every exported PDF.
I've downloaded fresh Calibre on my Windows PC and the same thing happens with the demo EPUB that came with it. You can test it, just export any EPUB file to PDF and then edit that PDF somewhere (I'm using Adobe Acrobat) and you'll see the rectangular white shape on each page. |

@Limeso - why are you converting what appears to be EPUB 2.0, which is a flowable format - like a web page, to PDF which is a paged format - like a printed book.
There are numerous EPUB readers for MacOS, Windows, Linux, IOS, and Android - there are some that can read both PDF and EPUB. Format shifting (conversion) is never perfect in any media - if you can, it's best avoided. BR |

The is no shape (image). Your body is normally a rectangle. The Body (area) or a div just inside, has a background-color color assigned. Read up on the The Box model Margin - border- padding - text/image (blocks) Background can be assigned to any Block level or text |
