Clara HD Mystery of "missing" books

I noticed a discrepancy in the amount of books on my Kobo.

On the Home Page, field "My Books" indicates 442 books.
However, using TAB "My Books", Filter "All" shows 447 books (this I expected).
I did inspect the DB KoboReader.sqlite directly, which gives 458 books, being 447 side-loaded books + 10 example books + 1 user guide.
So what can explain the "missing" 5 books (442 vs 447) difference on the Home Page?

I also have a discrepancy of 307 on the home screen vs 308 in My Books.

It appears also to be the case on my trusty old KA2 v1.

i have (all) my books mainly kepub on the external SD card. my books on the home screen shows 12 less than are on the card. the missing 12 show when i look at (filter all) when i go into my books. as far as i can tell the 12 not being counted on the home screen are some of my epub books not kepub.

i first noticed this with Firmware 4.23.15548, as some have already commented it's still the same with 4.24.15676.

All my books are on the internal SD card (as the Clara does not has an external SC card) and of type EPUB, CBR, CBZ and PDF (never used KEPUB). All are accounted for in the DB. The number of non-EPUB books does not equal to the amount of "missing" ones, so the FW takes them correctly into account.

So the difference can be negative (indicating less books than really present as in my case) but also positive (indicating more books than really present as in your case), which is odd, indeed.

It makes one curious to the used algorithm for the Home Page.

i've opened about 20 books or so in one of my collections so that they show on the first few pages. after doing so the my books count on the home screen as gone down by another 7 books. it was originally showing 12 less than what's on the device it's now 19.

it would be of interest to know if anyone else is noticing any book count variation on the home screen.

If I look at the Manage Downloads, it shows 15 downloaded Kobo books, 0 downloaded Dropbox books, 1 downloaded previews and 3607 Imported items (sideloaded books, etc.).

This total of 3623 is ~225 less than the 3848 shown as the number of books on the home page. If I look under the Filter All dropdown menu under Books, I see 238 purchased (I have more purchases but the majority are archived) and 2 Kobo Plus. Subtracting the 15 downloaded purchases, I end up with 223 +2 or the missing 225 books.

when i'm in books showing by (filter all) the total books as remained constant/the same and only goes up accordingly as and when i load more books. for me the problem of the book counting dropping is (only) with the my books total shown on the home screen.

edit. (all) my books are sideloaded.

I regard the value of Filter All correct as it is also the same as mentioned in Settings > Manage Downloads.So, indeed, the Home Page is erroneous.

I made a typo. It should have said 307 on the home screen and 308 in my books.

I wonder which eBook this is.

On my GloHD, My Books on the Homescreen shows 2273 books. But there's 2284 shown under All, Imported and Downloaded. Checking the number of books through Windows Explorer when it's plugged in, there are indeed 2284 books, 1 of which is on the reader as both epub and kepub and counts as 2 books.

I have no screenshots on the reader, I would guess that since they appear under My Books that a screenshot would be counted in that total. It could be that the same title in a different format doesn't count as 2 books in the homescreen count.

I only sideload books, never download anything directly to the reader, so I wouldn't expect it to be off.

Or it's just a bug, or Kobo's addition for the homescreen count is just off.

I would disagree with your conclusion. The home page shows your books including purchases that are not downloaded and Kobo Plus books while the Manage Downloads show books that are present on your device with books that are purchased and not downloaded or Kobo Plus books not being counted in that list.

Looking at the filter list in Books, All will match the number shown on the Home page, Downloaded will match the number that is the total of the Manage Downloads page -- Downloaded and Manage Downloads match, nah, coincidence.

Looking at my Clara HD, the Home page shows 12126 books which matches the All on the filter in Books. If I go to Manage Downloads, it shows 11891 total downloads which matches the Downloaded filter in the filter view. Purchased, Previews and Kobo Plus match what the Forma shows.

I checked this on several other ereaders in my Kobo collection and the numbers all match.

So no missing books on my devices.

when i first sideloaded all my books i had 12 less showing on the home screen. i didn't delete or add anymore books all i did was open books that were already on my ereader and the count on the home screen went down by another 7. as i mentioned in my first post this as carried over from firmware 4.23.15548.

You must be a happy person

But to summarize, I use only CBR, CBZ, EPUB and PDF (no KEPUB) types, only side-load my books via calibre, (downloaded Kobo books = 0, Downloaded previews = 0), can account for calibre downloads via inspection of the Kobo DB via SqliteSpy (which tally the numbers reported by calibre and those in Imported Items and My Books:filter All) and still amiss several on the Home Page. Thats my reality.

It is not a big issue, but I do not like numbers which do not add up and of which the difference cannot be properly explained.
