Calibre won't open!

I have had Calibre on my Mac for years and LOVE the program. However, when I went and downloaded the latest version (5.0.1), it wouldn't open on my computer. I downloaded it as usual, put it into my apps and had it replace the old version when asked, and then tried to open it. It goes along fine for a little while as though it is going to open, but then just stops.

I am not new to the program or updating it–I have over 3,800 books in Calibre. Now 3,800 books which I can't access through Calibre.

If anyone can help me, please respond.

Instead of trying to log into Calibre by using the icon on my desktop, I went back into the app folder and tried to open Calibre that way.

I'm not sure how, but I opened an old version of it, though all my books are there. I am using version 0.8.5. I would still like to figure out what was wrong and why the newest version wouldn't work at all, but at least now i have my library back.

Callbre 0.8.5 is very old, which suggests you might be running an old version of the operating system - check the Notes here ==>> calibre - Download for macOS

Caliber 0.8.5 is very old. It is about 10 years old I believe. I was updating regularly and had the most recent version 5.0.0 I believe until I tried to download the 5.0.1 which wouldn't open. So I went into the app folder and tried to open what was there. I think that 0.8.5 is the original version I downloaded years ago. And since I can open it to use and access my library I am doing so.

I would like to download the last version 5.0.0, but i don't know how to find that.

Thank you. I didn't find that until you mentioned it. I am doing that now and hopefully I will be able to replace 0.8.5 (and 5.0.1) with 5.0.0 and everything will be up and working again.

On OSX, you do not want to replace 5.0.1 with 5.0.0. 5.0.1 was created because of a problem with 5.0.0 on OSX.
