Author sort: by first name please

Changing from last name to first name for sort is the goal (temporarily) to work with MS OneDrive's listing by first name. Then I want to change it back to before (by last name). This is not a question about fn ln vs. ln, fn. How do I do?

It is not clear to me what you are asking, but this may be relevant: Want to change folder structure or file names in the Calibre library?

Although I don't know the best answer to your question, I'll try to ask it differently. After selecting the author column instead of the title column, my library is sorted by the last name of the author rather than the first word of the title of the book. Now, I'd like to have it sorted by first name rather than by last name as I work with OneDrive. Then, I'll switch it back. Thank you, jhowell.

What do you mean by "as I work with OneDrive"?

If you want to write format files to an OD folder (e.g. epub, pdf etc) use the Save to Disk`tool with an appropriate template to set the name.

What I mean by "working with OD" is not that I need to write some files to my folder there, so I prefer not to re-save using the tool you identified because I have nearly 3,000 books and articles there and in calibre. What I meant was I need to do a comparison with what is already there to determine which books have not been backed up yet in OD. Perhaps it's easier to start over with OD than to tweak calibre to show the author column such that it's sorted by first name as OD has it now for my folder.

Save to Folder was created to put files on a device that could only be treated as a folder. ( remember to eject or you will have an 'on Device' column every time you run Calibre)
My point is there IS a On Device column with ticks.

Putting your Library thru massive gyrations just to get First name Last name for filing, is just asking for when it fails (every author folder in the Library gets redone. all metadata backups get cued for rewrite OMG your poor disk)
