Nightmode hack on Clara HD?

Will the old nightmode hack that worked on my old Glo HD work work with my new Clara HD? Or is there any new nightmode hack that will work better.

Don't want to risk to mess up the new reader

Thanks in advance

1. Use NickelMenu.
2. Type devmodeon in the search bar, then go to Settings > Device Information > Developer options > Invert screen.
Personally, I use NickelMenu. It takes effect immediately, unlike the dev options.

The old nightmode hack does work on the Clara HD, though I haven't heard any mention of it with recent firmware versions. But, any issue it caused would be fixed with a factory reset.

Thanks, think I will try the nightmode hack first. But NickeMenu seems tempting :-)

Btw, which one is more stable? That is, less risk to cause problems?

Honestly nickelmenu or the devmodeon trick will be less risky than the old nightmode hack. Especially since the hack hasn’t been updated since the devmodeon trick was found.

Devmodeon is easier to disable but nickelmenu is going to be the fastest way to enable and disable nightmode.

I have absolutely no idea. I don't use them. I don't remember any stability issues with either of them. The safest is probably the "Invert screen" option via the developers mode, or even safer via the config option. That is built into firmware by Kobo. There is just different ways to turn it on which include Nickelmenu

As the the hack, I have never heard of an issue with it, except for configuring the way to turn it on. And, the last version of it was actually modified and built by a Kobo developer to add changes for newer hardware and firmware.

The choice probably comes down to how comfortable you are with the installation methods, and how you want to turn it on and off.

I can confirm that it works on my Kobo Clara HD with firmware 4.23.15548.

For my convenience, I changed the settings in nightmode.ini to toggle nightmode on and off by sliding the light-slider up to 100%.

I would go with NickelMenu as it works with the current firmware and you don't have to worry about having to factory reset.

Here is the line in the NickelMenu config that you need for nightmode.

Code:
menu_item:reader:Invert Screen:nickel_setting:invert

All of the options are stable; I've used them all at various times on various devices.
