Kobo Aura Edition 2 (v1): troubleshooting freezing issues

Hi all,

I'm currently trying to fix a Kobo Aura Edition 2 (v1) ereader that has been experiencing issues. It was reported as continuously freezing during normal operation: either in the menu or when browsing books. These are the troubleshooting steps that I've tried so far:

- Draining battery, testing at different charge levels
- Removing all books except a known-good epub
- Restoring using long-press on power button
- Updating to latest firmware
- Swapping out MicroSD card with fresh boot image (both with latest update & with stock)

I had high hopes for a fresh MicroSD Card, yet it doesn't seem to make a difference... My main observation is that it seems to happen when the device is idle for a bit, making me think it might be writing a sleep image (or similar? not sure how the kernel is configured on Kobo software) and failing to do so / wake afterwards. (I've been able to complete setup on some tries, on other attempts immediately freezing)

Any tips for further troubleshooting? Might it be the battery not providing enough current? (seems to be holding a charge / discharging as expected though). Thanks in advance - as the device is in mint condition (and with fresh SD card now ) I hope to be able to salvage it.
