My drive S: is an drive located on a Synology NAS. All my other programs works with maps on this drive. My Synology drive S: will make an backup every night to another Synology NAS server, placed in a physical other place.

The Calibre software is standard installed on the C: drive on one of my computers in the home network.

As mentioned earlier, I tried on several PC's to install the Calibre software on C: and to create an Calibre database on drive S: without any success.

PS: I am a Dutch user of the Calibre software

Smile Problem Solved

It took me some time, but I have tried to install the database and Calibre on a single stand alone PC and Yes! It worked well since that single install.

It is a bit confusing that a drive in Windows as a part of a NAS cannot be used as location for de Calibre database. Strange also, that I have used Calibre a long time in that manner without any problems. I think there has been a change in Windows or in Synology DSM, so the problem occured since?

Anyway, I now know the reason why Calibre didn't worked.

Thanks for helping!

Welcome what seems to be the most common complaint from people who try using calibre and the database/library stored a NAS/SAN/cloud drive: "But it worked for years...".

What many folk fail to realize is it is NOT an always: 'Does not Work', but it is FRAGILE.

Timing, Race Condition, (and the big Not Supported) Multi-(in)use interaction.
Calibre performs a Sequence of actions every time you make or update an entry. It expects the action to have completed when it move on to the next step. That may not be true with a buffered operation (network/cache) in use.
Toss in Anti-whatever checks and you get more delays (and I DO NOT endorse disabling Networked file checks, only a local disk Library..if needed)
