Order that books were actually added in

I often modify the "date" column so that means that if I sort by date it's not actually the order I added the books to Calibre in. Is there another way to find this?

I thought I had checked: ID is not (no longer) on the Sort list (connected or not) {I did see an odd one: has cover. This is NOT any of my available columns}

{id} is the number Calibre assigns when the book is first imported.
If you have peeked under the skirts, that is the ID.
book_title (##)

ID is also seen on the I(nfo) pane
Since it is assigned at initial import, you can sort on that, even if you tamper with {date}

How do you add this ID column? I'm able to add it under book details, but can't find it in the view prefs....

All this work because folk repurposed {date}

Make a custom column: Integer
Use the bulk mode, Search and replace to populate it
(My example just tested with a Integer field I had)

In my case it was for ebooks I had before I started using Calibre.

Sounds like why I have about 600 books that show their date as 09-Mar-2011.

Sometimes it seems like people get more enjoyment from organizing their books than simply reading them.

I find some humour in the number of times that people have repurposed a column and then want to work around the repurposing. It's not as if Kovid made it hard to add custom columns.

Mine started Oct 2009 and it took to the end of Jan 2010 for me to enter my dead tree collection (almost 1K worth) with basic sanity (Author-Title) and a cover, if the Add from ISBN did not get a cover, I slapped the book on my trusty HP4c. This was all done over Remote Desktop connection using my Laptop in the storage for entry (Calibre was on my desktop in my home office). It took a couple of YEARS to chase and beat the metadata into submission , in the meantime, I kept buying more (e)books

In my case, I found a huge stash of fanfics I had downloaded (as PDF format, what was I thinking?) a few years before I switched to using Calibre. I used FanFicFare to re-download them, but changed the dates to when I had originally downloaded them.

Occasionally I come across some stray manuals or something stuffed away in one of my miscellaneous folders.
