Track reading time on Kindle Paperwhite?
As far as I know, it is not possible to track reading time on a kindle unless you create a Kindle Freetime account.
However, I read a lot of personal docs (i.e. content not purchased from the Kindle store) which cannot be added to a Freetime account. I would really like to be able to track my reading time. I am not a programmer or anything, but is there some way this can be done without using a Freetime account? |

I asked this question some time ago on MR and got answers. My reading time setting had gone crazy and was giving ridiculous times.
This is the answer I was given: "You can reset the time left in chapter by doing a search for ";ReadingTimeReset" from within a book. When you do the search, your Kindle should show no results, but when you go back to your book instead of showing the time left in chapter it will say "Learning Reading Speed". After a few pages, it will start reporting an estimated time left again. In my experience on both my PW2 and Voyage, it seems like my reading spead will be reported fairly accurately for a while, then for no reason that I can see, it will suddenly seem to cut the estimate in half and report a much lower time than it will actually take me. Doing the search for ":ReadingTimeReset" will correct the estimate for awhile." (Copied from my PW2 after I'd pasted the best reply into Notepad and loaded it for reference; I can't remember who wrote this, but will try to look them up.) EDIT: It was Dordale in this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=288699 So although a PW won't tell you your words per minute, it will tell you how much longer it will take to read the book or chapter. Tap on the bottom left corner while reading a book. Last edited by BookCat; 06-28-2020 at 08:17 AM. |

If by "track reading time" the OP means to track how long he/she reads in a day, you can buy very cheap timers - I bought one from Poundland. You can either set a countdown alarm for as long as you want to read, at the end of which an alarm will go off, or you can just press Start and it begins counting up so at the end of reading you just look at the timer to see how long you've been reading. On mine, you can pause that time and start it again later in the day and have a daily total.
If the OP wants to know his/her reading speed, this is hard on a kindle because they don't give real page numbers, just location numbers. I suggest the OP places known word count documents on the ereader and times how long it takes to read this; basically doing it the old fashioned way. Or purchase speed reading software. It isn't clear to me exactly what the OP is asking. |

I am not talking about the reading time remain; I am referring to tracking how much time I read in a given day like on kindle Freetime.
